CONCEPTS OF CURRENT AND DEFINITIONAL ATTRIBUTES
Jess Jones
The meaning of the term "current" as we apply it across philosophical, magical, socio-economical domains is not allegory but determinative and descriptive. As a metric for the purpose of historic assessment it is measurable, discernable, has defined attributes, and can be quantified.
Current can be thought of as a directional movement of meaning, energy, or interpretation through a defined set. A current is: emergent collective directional self‑propagating adaptive identity‑forming It is the motion of an idea, not the idea itself.
🜂 1. Philosophical Currents — Movement of Interpretation
In philosophy, a current is the movement of thought across people and time. Examples: Stoicism Existentialism Pragmatism Postmodernism These are not “schools” in the strict sense. They are flows of interpretation that shape how people understand: meaning truth agency reality A philosophical current is a shared direction of thinking, not a fixed doctrine.
🜄 2. Magical Currents —
Movement of Symbolic Power
In magick, a current is the flow of symbolic, psychological,
and ritual energy through practitioners.
Examples: The Chaos Current The Thelemic Current The Witchcraft Current The
Hekatean Current The Luciferian Current A magical current is: emergent
collective experiential symbolic adaptive It is not created by a founder. It is discovered, then amplified by those who
resonate with it. This is why Chaos
magick laughs at the idea of “lineage.” Currents
are not inherited — they are entered.
3. Political Currents — Movement of Collective Will
In politics, a current is the directional flow of public
sentiment, often beneath formal ideology.
Examples: populism nationalism
progressivism libertarianism anti‑authoritarianism
These are not policies. They are emotional and conceptual flows that shape: identity allegiance conflict narrative
Political currents are powerful because they operate below explicit
argument — they move people before people articulate why.
🌊 The Shared Architecture
of Currents
Currents share attributes in common
1. Emergence collective interaction, not from a single origin.
2. Directionality— they have momentum, trajectory, and
evolution.
3. Identity Formation- they take on common attributes that define
a shared conceptualization
4. Symbolic Resonance Currents are comprised of symbols, narratives,
and shared meaning
5. Adaptive Evolution Currents respond to altered contextual
properties through adaptive change and hence can be thought of as emergent.
Why Currents Matter to the Chaote
Truth is emergent, not innate.
Currents are the mechanism through which emergent truth
becomes collective.
They are fields of meaning that can be entered, exited, or
navigated.
The Chaote’s internal authority remains the final arbiter,
but currents provide: Context resonance, symbolic vocabulary, shared momentum.
A Chaote uses currents the way an architect uses materials: Intentionally, selectively, adaptively, without surrendering agency. Currents are collective expressions, not elite constructs. They arise from connection, shared experience, symbolic resonance, to become emergent meaning.
Currents are not “higher truths.”
They are simply truth.
A current is a directional flow of meaning, energy, or
interpretation that emerges collectively.
In philosophy, it is the movement of thought.
In magick, the movement of symbolic power.
In politics, the movement of collective will.
Currents are emergent, adaptive, and identity‑forming
— and for the Chaote, they are tools to
navigate meaning, not authorities to obey.
